The Los Angeles Advertiser exists to serve Los Angeles — and that means giving readers a place to speak. Letters to the Editor are one of the oldest and most powerful traditions in journalism. They hold elected officials to account, start community conversations, and remind everyone that local news is a two-way street.

We read every letter we receive. We publish as many as we can.

What We're Looking For

We want letters that are pointed, passionate and grounded in the issues affecting Los Angeles. The best letters respond to something we've published, take a clear position, and make their case without wasting a word.

We publish letters from across the political and social spectrum. We don't need to agree with you — we need you to make your argument well.

Submission Guidelines

  • 300 words maximum — shorter is usually stronger
  • Full name and suburb required — we don't publish anonymous letters
  • One letter per writer per month — give others a turn
  • Letters may be edited for length, clarity and legal reasons — we'll never change your meaning
  • We won't publish content that is defamatory, discriminatory or abusive
  • Preference given to letters responding to recent The Los Angeles Advertiser coverage

How to Submit

Email your letter to editor@laadvertiser.com with the subject line "Letter to the Editor".

Include your full name, suburb and a daytime phone number — we may call to verify before publishing.

A Note on What We Publish

We receive more letters than we can print. If yours isn't published, it's not a judgment on your views — it's usually a matter of space and timing. Letters responding to recent coverage, or raising issues directly relevant to Los Angeles, are most likely to make it to print.
